We set the alarm for 6:30 so we could drive to Plymouth before we had to check out. We stopped at Plymouth Rock where the Mayflower landed in 1620. Next to it is a replica of the Mayflower. It was built in England and sailed here in 1954. We walked around town to the Pilgrim Hall museum. This museum is the oldest museum in the U.S. and has Mayflower artifacts. We drove to Cape Cod and got a site at Nickerson State Park. On the way in there was a huge snapping turtle on the road.

We drove to the Cape Cod National Seashore Visitor Center. We watched a movie about the geology of the cape. Afterward we drove to the Nauset lighthouse and Nauset light beach. This was the terminal for the first trans-atlantic cable to France. There used to be 3 lighthouses on the shoreline here but the land near them started to erode and they were moved. Then the Nauset lighthouse was built. It also has been moved once because of erosion. The 3 sisters were reconstructed and moved nearby in the woods. Next we stopped at an old Coast Guard station that was discontinued in 1958. It is now a private residence.
