After breakfast we drove into town to see if the Library was open so Jim could pay some bills and update the blog. It was closed but the wi-fi was still on and we parked by the curb and got the job done. When we left Mount Washington yesterday we drove back via the Kacamagus Highway but we didn’t have time to stop. So, this morning we drove back down it. We stopped at some overlooks, the Sabbaday Falls, Russell-Cobath House, Rocky Gorge and the Albany covered bridge built in 1858. The Russell-Cobath House built around 1832 has a story to it. The story goes that one day in 1891 Mr. Cobath left the house telling his wife he would be back soon. Every night for the next 39 years Mrs. Cobath lit a lantern and placed it in a window to help him find his way. He finally did, but by then Mrs. Cobath had been dead for three years. The trees are just beginning to turn and we saw some really red ones. We finished the drive and went to the American Legion Hall and had a beer. When they found out it was our last night here, they bought beers for us.
