It rained all day long. We hooked up and drove to New Bedford and stopped at the New Bedford Whaling National Historic Park. We went to the visitor center and walked around town. We got soaked, Our pants from the knees down, our socks and shoes and my hair were wet. We drove to Providence, Rhode Island and went to Roger Williams National Historic Park. Roger Williams was a theologian and founder of the Providence Plantation in 1636, a refuge for victims of religious persecution . He believed in the separation of church and state which was the basis for the first constitutional amendment.
We saw the first Baptist church in America that was founded iby Roger Williams in 1638. The park ranger told us to go to the Capital building to see the rotunda. We walked there and while in the rotunda taking pictures, Governor Chaffee came by us and said good bye. We walked through the building and saw the senate and representatives halls. The rotunda here is absolutely beautiful! It is the fourth largest self supporting marble dome in the world.
We continued on to camp at Fisherman’s Memorial State Park in Point Judith, Rhode Island. It was still raining and we drove to Narragansett to a Diners, Drive-in and Dives restaurant named Crazy Burger. Jim had the Hellapeno Burger and I had the Gorgonzola Burger. We shared sweet potato fries and a piece of Chai chocolate cake. It was a BYOB and we took a bottle of wine.
